How do I know Hua Hin is one of
Thailand’s oldest beach resorts? Because it is older than me, that’s
how. In fact the Royal Beach Resort dates back to the 1920s, I think
it was 1928 to be exact when the revered King Rama V11 who built a
palace called – wait for it – Klai Kangwon, or loosely translated
for the Aussie readers among our vast and sophisticated audience as
“ no worries mate”.
At that time Hua Hin was little more than a
sleepy little fishing village.
Cripes little did they know that
before the turn of the 21st century Hua Hin would become
one of the premier beach resorts in Thailand if not in the whole of
South Easy Asia. Look at the place today. Hundreds of hotels of all
categories; oodles of noodles and scads of sea food and
International eateries are dotted all around the resort too.
And do you know what else? Hua Hin is
the site of Thailand’s very first public golf course, built in the
20’s as well. It was the Royal Family that decreed Hua Hin a “Royal
Resort” and gave it its special soul if you will, and the building
of the railway line from Bangkok to the fishing village also gave
Hua Hin accessibility. Royalty and nobility in old Siam finally had
a retreat. It is if anything even easier to get to today. Sure the
train still runs and many use it, but in this whiz, whiz, world the
expressway between Bangkok and Hua Hin is used far more. One can
even zip thru the skies with Hua Hin Airways and enjoy the beauty of
The Kingdom from the air.
