Bangkok Sukhumvit 55

Sukhumvit Soi 55, or Soi Thong Lo, is billed as the "up market" place to be in Thailand. Sorry but I really don't get it. Yes the small Sois' off 55 have plenty of very good restaurants, but my office is on Soi 10 off Thong Lo and I visit it daily. I see just an average street with one or two restaurants, and absolutely nowhere to cross in complete safety. In fact many of these very good restaurants are closer to Sukhumvit 53 than 55. And whats more I find 53 lots nicer and much less conjested. Anyone out there agree with me?
